(Tulbaghia violacea) Perennial. A delightful and easy-to-grow herb that produces beautiful lilac flowers atop long, slender stems. Its long, grass-like leaves have a distinct, garlic-like aroma. Leaves and flowers are used to add flavor to a range of dishes and can be used in place of chives. Society Garlic can be used medicinally as it has antibacterial and antifungal properties.
To Grow:
For container plants, sow 2-3 seeds per plant in soil that is very porous such as 1 part perlite, 1 part peat moss or coco coir, and 1 part potting soil. To direct sow outdoors, sow in soil heavily amended with organic matter to improve drainage. Keep seeds moist until germination.
